Yes, you’ve heard it before, and being the versatile pinoy / pinay that you are, you’ve probably already tried sticking a rolled piece of dryer sheet in your shoes to freshen them up.
You’ve probably used it to wipe the many surfaces that you read can be cleaned by dryer sheets. Picked up that lint? Used dryer sheet. Run out of swiffer refill? Use a dryer sheet. Clean your window? Use a dryer sheet …
We’ve all heard the many uses this almost transparent, unassuming piece of sheet that was originally manufactured to just freshen your laundry and make them softer. And in this economy, recycling becomes more attractive.
But how effective or harmful are these uses? Coming across so many conflicting reports, we decided to go to Procter & Gamble’s official Bounce [leading US dryer sheet brand] web site, BounceEverywhere.com , to see what they have to say.
Before you grab your handy dryer sheet and start cleaning the whole house with it, read the notice posted on their web site:
“Bounce is not for use on children’s sleepwear or other garments labeled as flame resistant as it may reduce flame resistance. Keep Bounce out of reach of toddlers and pets to avoid accidental ingestion. http://www.bounceeverywhere.com/”
That out of the way, they do keep an official list of ideas where you can use the handy dryer sheet around the house, note that the suggestions are mostly for freshening up the house:
- put sheets in drawers for that instant burst of freshness
- Across clinging fabrics to reduce static cling on the spot.
- In your gymn bag to give odors a workout
- In shoes to help give odors the boot
- Behind a bathroom mirror or inside a dry vase
- Behind kitchen curtains
- In the garbage can to mask the stinky smell
- Tucked in your car’s sun visor
- In your vacuum cleaner bag
For the rest of the list, you can visit the Bounce web site. They also had a message board and today’s entry suggests using Bounce (or other similar dryer sheets) to dry your dog and paws. It is said to be also effective in removing that “wet doggy odor” by rubbing sheets all over your dog’s body except their face and feet.
So next time, you thought of throwing away your dryer sheet after laundry hour, think again.
